# Mail Clients

This guide shows you how to send and receive emails from MailSlurp inboxes using your own Mail client.

## Requirements
Create an [inbox](/docs/inboxes/) in MailSlurp and click on the IMAP/SMTP access tab to obtain your IMAP and SMTP credentials. Use these in the next steps to configure your Mail client.

## Setup flow
1. Create an inbox in MailSlurp.
2. Open inbox settings and copy IMAP/SMTP credentials.
3. Configure your client with the connection settings from [IMAP SMTP docs](/docs/imap-smtp/).
4. Send a test email and confirm you can receive it in the same mailbox.

## Recommended verification checks
- Confirm both send (SMTP) and receive (IMAP) paths work.
- Verify folder/flag behavior in your client for unread/read workflows.
- Test attachment download behavior for your target message formats.

## Troubleshooting
- Authentication failures: verify the exact inbox credentials, not dashboard login credentials.
- Connection issues: confirm host/port/TLS values from [IMAP SMTP](/docs/imap-smtp/).
- Missing messages: check inbox type and send/receive direction in MailSlurp logs or API views.
