A colleague sends an Outlook screenshot, but it shows the message in a browser rather than the Windows app you checked. Before changing the design, preview the campaign in the same client. The reading area around an email is part of how the customer experiences it.

MailSlurp's **Outlook.com** target lets you inspect that web result. This walkthrough follows a fictional ClearRoof gutter-care campaign from a generated render address to its completed preview. We'll read the photograph, service descriptions, starting price and booking action, including the conditions and final links below them.

## Which Outlook should you select?

Choose **Outlook.com** for this walkthrough. The completed viewer identifies it as **Chrome browser render**. **New Outlook**, **Outlook Classic** and the mobile Outlook apps have separate selections.

If a report only says "Outlook," ask where the person opens their email. Microsoft's [Outlook version guide](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/getstarted/what-version-of-outlook-do-i-have) helps identify the application. Our [Outlook versions guide](/blog/outlook-versions-explained/) also explains the family when you're choosing previews.

Keep that client name with the finding. A browser result gives you a specific view to inspect; a Windows or phone preview answers a different part of the review.

## Why automate a webmail check?

Manually opening a test email is straightforward. Collecting fresh screenshots from several clients becomes repetitive when a campaign changes. Someone may approve an earlier price or description while another person is checking the revised message.

MailSlurp keeps the selected client results with the email supplied for a run. Send the current campaign, inspect its webmail and app previews, and repeat after a change. This gives reviewers a consistent message to discuss instead of a mixture of old and new screenshots.

## Step-by-step guide: preview email in Outlook.com

You'll need a MailSlurp workspace with device previews available and enough preview credits for your selection. We tested the **Outlook.com** target on **October 9, 2026**.

The ClearRoof example includes a hosted gutter photograph, two service descriptions, a starting price of $160 + GST and a yellow booking button. It uses fictional company and recipient details with example links.

### 1. Choose Outlook.com

Open the [new device preview form](https://app.mailslurp.com/device-previews/create?onboardingRequest=devicePreview), or choose **Start new render** from **Device previews**.

Expand **Custom target set** and select **Outlook.com**. For this individual check, confirm **1 target selected**. Check that a saved profile hasn't added Windows or mobile Outlook targets, then review the credits shown.

### 2. Copy the current render address

Choose **Send email** and copy the address under **Send your email to this address**. Compare the whole address with the recipient in your sending tool.

Copy it after choosing your targets. An address saved from a previous check may belong to a different selection; use the one shown for the preview you intend to run.

### 3. Send the campaign and follow the matching result

Send your campaign or test message to that address. When reviewing a campaign from an email platform, use its test-send option so the preview includes the copy, personalization and links that platform produces.

The sample subject is **Before the next downpour: gutter care from $160 + GST**. You can [download the sample email](/resources/email-rendering/clearroof-seasonal-care-v2.eml) to inspect the source, photograph URL and example destinations. Keep that source unchanged when comparing the example across clients.

Choose **I have sent my email** to open the waiting view. Receipt starts the render automatically. Our matching campaign appeared with **RUN CREATED**; **View results** opened the associated run.

Wait for **COMPLETE** and a **READY** Outlook.com result. This run produced one ready screenshot. If a message has arrived and rendering is still in progress, follow that run before sending it again.

### 4. Inspect the web result from top to bottom

Open the screenshot and confirm **Outlook.com** and **Chrome browser render** in the viewer. Use the zoom controls for small text, or **Open** to inspect the full image separately.

Begin with the photograph and heading, then read the two service descriptions before moving to the price and action. Continue past the button. The conditions and footer are part of the campaign your customer receives.

## How did the campaign fit the web reading area?

The white ClearRoof campaign is centered within a wider pale area. The photograph fills the campaign's width, while the surrounding space separates the message from the webmail controls. **Time to clear your gutters?** fits on one line below the photo.

The **Gutters cleared** and **Downpipes checked** sections remain side by side. Their descriptions stay under the corresponding headings. Below that row, **Gutter cleaning from $160 + GST** also fits on one line.

The booking action keeps its yellow fill and dark **Book gutter cleaning** label. The text above it explains the standard single-storey offer and confirming a visit time. The smaller paragraph below explains that access, roof pitch and gutter condition affect the final price.

The result continues through the signoff, company details, preference and unsubscribe links, sample notice and photo credit. Those details are all present in the full image, so the review can include the conditions as well as the prominent offer.

When reviewing your own campaign, separate the space around the message from the spacing inside it. Start by finding the campaign's edges, then look at the photograph, text and action within them. If a heading wraps differently from your design preview, check whether it remains readable and keeps the intended order before deciding to edit it.

## How does this compare with New Outlook for Windows?

The [New Outlook for Windows walkthrough](/guides/how-to-preview-email-in-new-outlook-windows/) uses the same ClearRoof campaign. In both completed results, the photograph appears, the service descriptions share a row, the main heading and price fit on one line, and the yellow booking action leads into the conditions and full footer.

The surrounding views differ. Outlook.com shows the campaign within a broad web message area; the New Outlook result includes the Windows message window. Look at the campaign content in each result, then consider the space and controls around it.

For a revision, compare the same elements again: the two service descriptions, price, button label and conditions. These two results give you a useful reference for this message. Test the revised email in each required target before approving it.

## MailSlurp features for repeated webmail reviews

A render address lets you send the finished campaign from your platform. During template work, MailSlurp also accepts HTML, exported emails and messages already received in a MailSlurp inbox. The [email source guide](/docs/device-rendering-sources/) explains those starting points.

Use a [saved target profile](/docs/device-rendering-profiles/) to keep your usual webmail and app selections together. A [comment or share link](/docs/device-rendering-review/) helps a colleague inspect the same result when discussing a particular heading, image or link. Include enough surrounding content to make the finding clear.

For application-generated emails, the [rendering API and CI workflow](/docs/device-rendering-ci/) can retain previews with the message produced by a test. That makes it easier to revisit the result after the template or data changes.

## Which other clients should you include?

Use the [Outlook family guide](/guides/how-to-preview-an-email-in-outlook/) to plan separate browser, desktop and phone checks. A wide web reading area gives the campaign more room than a phone, so include the mobile apps your audience uses.

Gmail and Yahoo provide useful companion webmail checks. Keep the campaign revision unchanged when comparing results and review the available selections in the current picker.

## Keep the price and conditions connected

The ClearRoof email moves from the service descriptions to a starting price, then explains what can affect the final quote. Read that whole sequence in your result. The customer should be able to understand the offer before choosing the booking action.

Before sending a real campaign, follow the booking link from a controlled message and check the destination. This example uses sample links. If the offer changes, send the updated version for another preview; use a separate [inbox placement test](/product/inbox-placement-deliverability-tests/) for inbox-versus-spam questions.
